BBC DJ’S DOUBLE LIFE EXPOSED AGAIN: SICK PREDATOR BACK IN COURT AFTER “FLAGRANT” BREACHES

**update** 10/04/2926 A man previously convicted for a series of sexual offences, including indecent assaults on teenage girls, has been detained again after being found to have violated the conditions of his sex offender registration.

Peter Rowell, aged 67, who formerly worked as a presenter for BBC and ITV, was sentenced to six years in prison and was mandated to register as a sex offender by Bristol Crown Court in 2012 due to numerous sexual misconduct charges.

His recent violations occurred while he was residing in a flat on Hereford Road in Abergavenny.

This month, at Newport Magistrates' Court, Rowell received a 29-week prison sentence after admitting to two counts of failing to comply with sex offender notification obligations.

The offences took place in Pontypridd between November 1 of the previous year and March 26.

Specifically, he did not inform authorities of an address where he had spent more than 12 hours with or without an adult while a minor was present, nor of a location where he remained for at least seven days.

Court officials highlighted that Rowell demonstrated a blatant disregard for court orders.

Fourteen years prior, he admitted to photographing children indecently and possessing over 400 inappropriate images.

A father from Wickwar, South Gloucestershire, Rowell had pleaded guilty to 12 counts of indecent assault after accusations from five women.

His offences spanned from 1989 into the early 1990s, involving victims under the age of 16.

Additionally, he confessed to six counts of creating indecent photographs of children.

Rowell's career included presenting the Afternoon Show on BBC Radio Bristol and BBC Somerset, which featured music and celebrity interviews.

He also served as a newsreader on ITV West for more than a decade and worked as a DJ at GWR radio in the 1980s.

He was reported missing in March 2011, which initiated a police search.

His car was found abandoned in Yate, and he was later located in Keswick, Cumbria.

Originally from Sunderland, his criminal activities came to light as part of this investigation.

Judge David Ticehurst, who sentenced him in 2012, noted that Rowell’s outward success and family life concealed a dark secret: an attraction to young girls which led to exploitation over several years.

The judge described his behavior as not isolated but a series of crimes involving five girls, manipulated through his media career and the illusion of access to the media world.

This case underscores the ongoing breaches of legal restrictions by individuals with prior sex offences, highlighting the importance of vigilance and enforcement of offender monitoring laws.

_____________________________________________ A SHAMED former BBC radio presenter has been hauled back before the courts after once again ignoring strict rules designed to protect the public.

Paedophile Peter Rowell, now 67, has been jailed for 29 weeks after pleading guilty to breaching sex offender notification requirements — proving, magistrates said, his “flagrant disregard for court orders.” The latest offences took place in Pontypridd between November and March, where Rowell failed to tell police he had stayed at addresses he was legally required to declare — including one linked to the presence of a person under 18.

This is not a one-off slip.

It’s part of a disturbing pattern.

Rowell was originally locked up for SIX YEARS at Bristol Crown Court in 2012 after a catalogue of sexual offences that shocked the West Country.

Behind the polished voice and media fame was a predator.

He admitted taking indecent photographs of children and possessing more than 400 sickening images.

He also pleaded guilty to 12 counts of indecent assault involving five girls — all under 16 at the time — spanning several years.

The court heard how he used his position in the media to lure victims, inviting them into what they believed was the glamorous world of broadcasting — only for it to become something far darker.

Judge David Ticehurst didn’t hold back when sentencing him in 2012.

“You had a life many would envy,” he said.

“But behind that public image was a dark secret.” Rowell, once a familiar voice on BBC Radio Bristol and BBC Somerset, even sparked a police hunt in 2011 after mysteriously disappearing — his car abandoned in a supermarket car park before he was later found hundreds of miles away in Cumbria.

Now, years after his original conviction, he’s back in a prison cell — not for new offences, but for failing to follow the rules put in place because of his past.

A past the courts have made clear the public should never forget.

———————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————— In a significant development in the fight against sexual offenses committed by individuals in positions of trust, former broadcaster Peter Rowell has been sentenced to six years in prison for a series of heinous crimes involving young girls.

The court proceedings revealed that Rowell, aged 53, had pleaded guilty to a total of 12 counts of indecent assault against girls under the age of 16.

Additionally, he admitted to six charges related to the creation of indecent images and one count of possessing such images.

Despite denying a charge of rape, the jury at Bristol Crown Court accepted an alternative charge of indecent assault, confirming the severity of his misconduct.

These offenses were committed over a span of several years, specifically between 1989 and the early 1990s, targeting five victims.

The impact on those victims was described by Judge David Ticehurst as 'considerable,' emphasizing the lasting trauma inflicted by Rowell’s actions.

The court also ordered him to be registered as a sex offender, a measure aimed at monitoring his activities and preventing further harm.

Peter Rowell, who hails from Wickwar in South Gloucestershire, had a prominent career in the media industry, working as a presenter for BBC Radio Bristol and BBC Somerset during the afternoon hours.

His career also included a lengthy tenure as a newsreader on ITV West, spanning over a decade, and he was known as a DJ for the commercial radio station GWR during the 1980s.

His reputation was well-established until his criminal activities came to light.

The case took a dramatic turn in March 2011 when Rowell failed to report for work, prompting a nationwide search.

His vehicle was located in a supermarket parking lot at Yate, which led to further investigations.

The following day, authorities found him safe and well in Keswick, Cumbria.

His disappearance prompted police to conduct a raid on his residence, where they seized his computer.

Forensic analysis uncovered more than 400 indecent images of children stored on his device, providing crucial evidence for the case.

Detective Inspector Jill Kells, speaking outside the court, commended the bravery of the five victims who came forward to share their experiences.

She highlighted that the initial contact was made over a year ago when the first woman reported her abuse.

Subsequently, a second victim reached out, and after Rowell’s arrest and subsequent charges, three more victims came forward, illustrating the widespread impact of his actions.

Most of the offenses were committed at the studios of GWR radio station on Bristol’s waterfront and at the victims’ homes, although none took place within the BBC or ITV studios.

Detective Kells explained that Rowell exploited his position of trust and used grooming behaviors to manipulate his victims, often preying on their admiration for him as a media personality.

Her comments underscored the predatory nature of his conduct and the importance of justice for the victims.

Sian Sullivan from the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) reaffirmed the commitment of the justice system to prosecute such offenses regardless of the time elapsed since their commission.

She emphasized that Rowell exploited his fame to prey on innocent, starstruck young girls, and that today’s sentencing sends a clear message that such behavior will not be tolerated.

Sullivan expressed hope that the victims would find some measure of closure through the court’s decision.

Overall, this case highlights the dangers of abuse of power within the entertainment industry and the importance of vigilance and justice for victims.

It also serves as a reminder that no matter how long ago the offenses occurred, the legal system remains committed to holding offenders accountable, ensuring that justice is served for those who have suffered at the hands of predators like Peter Rowell.
