COVENTRY PAEDOPHILE AND BROTHER JAILED FOR ABUSING GIRL IN THE 1970S
A convicted paedophile from Coventry, along with his brother who also abused a young girl, has been sentenced to prison.John Mackenzie, aged 60 and from Pondthorpe, was convicted of abusing his victim more than four decades ago and received a 14-year prison term on Monday, April 29.
Following a trial held in March, he was found guilty of five counts of indecency with a child, three counts of rape, and two counts of indecent assault.
He received his sentence alongside his brother, Peter Mackenzie, aged 57, of Borve, Isle of Lewis, who was convicted on six counts of indecent assault, six counts of indecency with a child, five counts of rape, and one count of causing actual bodily harm.
Peter Mackenzie was sentenced to 16 years in prison.
The abuse of their young victim started in Leicester during the 1970s when she was still a child and went on until she was approximately 14 years old.
She reported the incidents in March 2017, prompting an investigation into the matter.
Detective Constable Anna Blockley, the officer leading the case, commented: “This abuse occurred over 40 years ago, and I believe both Peter and John Mackenzie thought their victim would never come forward.
However, she summoned the courage to speak to police and detailed in great depth what the brothers had done to her.
I hope that, even all these years later, she can take some reassurance in knowing they have now been brought to justice for their crimes.”
