MAN JAILED FOR RAPE AND ASSAULT
A man from Poole has been convicted and imprisoned for raping and assaulting a woman at her Bournemouth home.Perry Michael Legg, 33, was sentenced at Bournemouth Crown Court on June 21 after previously being found guilty of three counts of rape and one count of assault causing actual bodily harm.
In an earlier hearing, he admitted to possessing extreme pornographic material.
The court sentenced Legg to 12 years in prison and imposed a Sexual Harm Prevention Order, along with a lifetime sex offenders’ registration.
The assault took place on July 20, 2021, when Legg was at the woman’s house, both of them drinking.
He then assaulted her physically and then sexually assaulted her over a period of time.
The woman managed to flee to a neighbor’s house and contacted a friend, who came to retrieve her.
Police were alerted, and Legg was arrested in the early hours the following day after he agreed to meet officers in Winton, having learned he was wanted.
Investigations of his phone revealed numerous images depicting extreme pornography.
Detective Sergeant Nick Whittaker from Dorset Police said: “Perry Legg subjected his victim to a truly horrific physical and sexual attack, and I want to praise her for the courage she has shown in coming forward to report the offences.
“She has also shown immense bravery throughout the investigation and court process and helped to ensure Legg faces justice for his despicable crimes.
“I hope her actions will help inspire other victims of sexual offences to find the strength to report them to police, in the knowledge that they will be fully supported and we will do all we can to ensure offenders are held accountable.”
