A Northumbria Police officer was found with over 80 indecent images of children after officers raided his house, a police misconduct hearing was told.PC Paul Yeoman, who has since left the force, was alleged to have viewed images of children as young as three-years-old.A report into the proceedings said officers raided PC Yeoman's home on May 9, 2025.
His mobile phone was seized and sent for forensic examination, which uncovered 18 category A images, 25 category B images and 40 category C images. The images showed children as young as three-years-old, the hearing was told.
The officer was charged and appeared before Teesside Magistrates Court on December 12, 2025, where he pleaded guilty to three offences of making indecent photographs of children.Former PC Yeoman was sentenced to an 18-month community order with 30 Rehabilitation Activity Requirement Days and 200 hours of unpaid work.
He was subject to notification requirements for five years and made subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for five years. The report noted that during proceedings the officer provided a letter accepting possession of the images on his device.
In it, he states that he downloaded pornography, saw the indecent images, and deleted them rather than report them. The hearing was told that the former officer had a previously unblemished record, accepted responsibility for the conduct, showed remorse, and had sought counselling. The hearing concluded that the allegations were proven on the balance of probabilities and amounted to gross misconduct.
It was decided that former PC Yeoman would have been dismissed had he still been serving in the police.
He was also placed on the Police Barring List."These are serious criminal offences which undermine the public trust and confidence in the police force", the report added.
