NORTHUMBRIA POLICE MAN CONTACTED SEX WORKER ON FORCE PHONE
A misconduct hearing revealed that Northumbria Police officer Jonathan Miller reached out to a woman involved in sex work via a department-issued phone sometime between December 2023 and January 2024.Additionally, it was established that Miller followed adult content accounts on X, formerly Twitter, using an account that displayed his police affiliation.
Miller chose not to attend the hearing when the allegations were upheld in his absence.
Chief Constable Vanessa Jardine explained that the misconduct involved a vulnerable individual and was driven by sexual desire.
She emphasized that interactions with sex workers during duty and following pornographic accounts while using an officer-identifying social media account violate force regulations.
Miller declined to be interviewed by investigators beyond reading a prepared denial statement.
The tribunal found his conduct to constitute gross misconduct, noting the repeated and serious nature of the breaches, which could have led to dismissal if he had not already left the police force.
He will now be listed on the Police Barred List, which bars dismissals for gross misconduct from re-entering policing roles.
