ABUSER ATTACKED WOMAN AGAIN AFTER JAIL RELEASE
A man intoxicated and previously abusive towards his partner was sentenced to two years and eight months in prison after assaulting her during a holiday just a week following his release from custody for an earlier incident involving punching her.Aaron Keetley, aged 38, subjected the woman to a prolonged attack inside a caravan in Northumberland, during which he strangled her and struck her with a wine bottle.
The assault lasted almost an hour and was witnessed by her distressed children, as revealed in court proceedings at Newcastle Crown Court.
The victim reported ongoing fears of Keetley, and a court judge described a audio recording of the assault made by her as 'chilling.' Keetley, who was without a fixed address, pleaded guilty to charges of assault and deliberate strangulation.
He has a history of domestic abuse, having previously harmed a former partner, and reportedly entered into a relationship with the current victim at the end of 2024, as outlined by prosecutor Neil Pallister.
The court was informed that Keetley struggled with alcohol, leading to frequent disputes over his drinking.
In May 2025, he served a six-week sentence for repeatedly punching the woman in the face.
Following his release on 25 July, Keetley went on a holiday with the woman and her two young children to Haggerston Castle.
The situation escalated earlier in August when alcohol-fueled disagreements turned violent around midday.
During the nearly hour-long assault on 7 August in the caravan’s bedroom, Keetley wrapped his arm around the woman’s neck, cutting off her airflow.
He also bit her on the back, struck her face and legs with a wine bottle, and punched her, as detailed in court documents.
The children, in a nearby room, heard their mother’s distress and pleaded with Keetley to stop, but he dismissively told them she was crying without reason while he continued his assault.
The woman managed to record an audio of the attack, in which Keetley is heard threatening to kill her, claiming he was stronger and would destroy her mind.
In a statement presented in court, she described how the attack has had lasting repercussions, including living in constant fear and suffering from severe anxiety and depression.
A court-imposed restraining order prohibiting Keetley from contacting her for 15 years was also issued.
