A "CRUEL" AND COWARDLY CHILD MOLESTER WHO ALSO DOMESTICALLY ABUSED HIS PARTNER AND STALKED HER AFTER SHE LEFT HIM HAS BEEN JAILED FOR 11 YEARS
At Newcastle Crown Court, it was heard that Mark Harvey, 42, had engaged in the sexual abuse of two young girls and had subjected his partner to ongoing physical assault and threats over a 16-year period.After their breakup in 2023, prompted by the exposure of his child sex crimes, Harvey attempted to monitor his ex-partner by sending her a tracking-enabled phone and a tablet with CCTV capabilities, while also reaching out through prison letters.
Harvey, from Kielder in Northumberland, accepted charges of 11 offences, which included having sexual contact with a child under 13, stalking, and using controlling and coercive tactics.
His background trace back to Blackpool, where he met his partner online in 2007, later cohabiting with her on Tyneside, as stated by prosecutor Vincent Ward.
Court evidence detailed how he would physically assault her in ways that concealed bruising, alongside frequent verbal abuse and threats such as fighting to the death or dismemberment.
He accused her of infidelity, forced her to modify her appearance, and kept her isolated from family and friends.
Violent acts extended beyond his partner, affecting children and pets, with reports of him kicking and assaulting the family dogs.
Post-separation, Harvey’s stalking intensified through sending her tracking devices, unwanted gifts, and intrusions into her social media, court documents revealed.
He also attempted to conceal prison correspondence by mailing letters under another inmate’s name to evade security measures.
His former partner's statement, read aloud, described her life as being dominated by Harvey’s abusive behavior, and she admitted to living in ongoing fear even after he was imprisoned, doubting her ability to rebuild her life.
One of the victims of Harvey’s sexual abuse reported suffering from trauma symptoms like flashbacks and panic attacks, describing him as a "cruel" individual.
The court also noted Harvey’s previous conviction for benefit fraud in 2012.
Judge Thomas Moran described his urges as "uncontrollable" and his behavior as "opportunistic and cruel," stressing the profound impact on his partner and the severe psychological harm caused to his minor victims.
Initially denying multiple allegations and fleeing before arrest in February 2025, Harvey later admitted guilt during his trial.
The judge cited Harvey’s lack of remorse, criticising him for not accepting responsibility and for attempting to blame his victims.
He confirmed that Harvey's denial of sexual interest in children was outright false.
Harvey was classified as a high-risk offender, requiring an additional four-year license extension, lifelong sex offender registration, and a 20-year order to prevent sexual harm.
