PAUL PALLET'S HORRIFIC DOMESTIC ABUSE IN NUNEATON LEADS TO SEVEN-YEAR SENTENCE

A man from Nuneaton, Paul Pallet, has been sentenced to over seven years in prison after a prolonged campaign of domestic abuse against his former partner that lasted for eight years. The 39-year-old, who currently resides on Hewell Lane in Redditch, was brought before Warwick Crown Court where he pleaded guilty to multiple serious charges related to his abusive behavior.

His convictions include two counts of engaging in coercive and controlling behavior, one count of causing grievous bodily harm, one count of intentional strangulation, and two counts of assault. In addition to his prison sentence, Pallet was issued a restraining order that will remain in effect for twenty years, prohibiting any contact with his victim.

The police responded to a distress call in September 2023, visiting the residence where Pallet was living with his ex-partner. Concerns for her safety had prompted the authorities to act swiftly. An investigation was launched, led by specially trained domestic abuse investigators who work to support victims and gather evidence in such cases. Pallet was arrested the following day and was remanded into custody pending trial.

During the investigation, officers worked closely with the victim, providing her with guidance on available support services, including charities that offer psychological and practical assistance related to domestic abuse, such as help with housing and financial issues. The victim recounted years of suffering, revealing that in January 2023, Pallet attacked her feet with a 3kg dumbbell. Over the following days, he continued to assault her using weapons like a hammer, which police believe resulted in a fractured foot.

Further details emerged about the brutal treatment she endured. Pallet would force her to sleep on the stairs, leaving bruises on her skin, and would make her stand by the front door or sit upright on the sofa for extended periods. If she fell asleep, he would assault her. He also restricted her access to medical treatment, isolating her from her family and friends, and only allowed her one meal per day. The victim was subjected to ice baths and was prevented from seeking medical help for injuries, including a broken arm caused when she fell during an attack.

Detective Constable Erin McGovern, a specialist in domestic abuse cases in Nuneaton, praised the victim’s bravery. She stated, “I would like to commend the bravery of the victim who worked with us to secure the conviction of a very dangerous man. She has shown great courage and I hope this will reassure other victims of domestic abuse that we are there to listen and we will help to keep you safe. This investigation and sentence demonstrates our focus on tackling crime that disproportionately affects women and girls to ensure they feel safe in Warwickshire. Domestic abuse is a crime that often takes place behind closed doors, but victims should never feel like they are on their own.”
