PAUL CHILD FROM KIDLINGTON, OXFORD, JAILED FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY EXCHANGE
In February 2009, a disturbing case emerged involving Paul Child, a chef residing in Kidlington, Oxford, who was found guilty of engaging in the exchange of child pornography with a network of other paedophiles. The police investigation revealed a troubling pattern of illegal activity centered around Child’s residence in Kidlington, where authorities uncovered significant evidence of his involvement in the distribution and possession of indecent images of children.Child’s criminal conduct came to light after he sent a text message to a person identified by law enforcement as a dangerous paedophile, who had already been flagged by police authorities. This message served as a crucial link in the investigation, ultimately leading to a raid on his home in Kidlington. During the operation, officers discovered six discs containing hundreds of indecent images of children, a find that underscored the severity of his crimes.
Further analysis of two mobile phones seized from Child revealed that he had been actively exchanging illicit images with Kevin Kyberd, a convicted distributor of child pornography. Kyberd, aged 55 and from Pickworth near Bourne, Lincolnshire, had previously been sentenced to an indefinite prison term after being classified as a dangerous predatory sexual offender. Court records indicate that Kyberd had posed as a 15-year-old boy online, persuading young girls to send him explicit photographs of themselves, which he then stored on his mobile devices.
Prosecutor Michael Cranmer-Brown explained that Child’s involvement with Kyberd began after he encountered him on a mobile phone chat room. The police investigation uncovered a disturbing collection of digital material, including 1,901 indecent images and 12 videos stored on the mobile phones and discs exchanged between Child and Kyberd. Additionally, Child admitted to exchanging images with two other individuals known only as Jane and Chris, further illustrating the extent of his participation in this illegal activity.
During police interviews, Child confessed to sharing some of the images, justifying his actions by stating, “I was drunk, it was fun.” The court heard that Child, aged 44 and residing on Beech Crescent, had committed multiple offences over a four-month period in 2007, including the distribution, possession, and incitement of indecent images of children. As a result of his conviction, he was ordered to register as a sex offender for ten years, disqualified from working with children for life, and banned from being alone with any child, reflecting the serious nature of his crimes and the ongoing threat he posed to the community.
