SEX ABUSER HAS SENTENCE FOR CHILD SEXUAL OFFENCES INCREASED
Benjamin Johnson, who was convicted of sexual offenses involving a minor, has had his prison term increased after his case was sent to the Court of Appeal by the Solicitor General, Alex Chalk QC MP.A man convicted of abusing a child sexually has seen his sentence raised following a referral to the Court of Appeal by the Solicitor General, Alex Chalk QC MP.
Benjamin Johnson, now aged 36, started abusing his victim, who was only 6 years old at the time, when he was 14.
The abuse persisted for four years, often taking place when the two stayed overnight at the same residence.
On 2 December 2021, Johnson received a sentence of 3 years and 3 months in prison from Chester Crown Court.
After sentencing, the Solicitor General submitted Johnson’s case to the Court of Appeal under the Unduly Lenient Sentence (ULS) scheme.
On 10 February, the Court of Appeal determined that the original sentence was too lenient and increased it to six years’ imprisonment.
