POLICE OFFICER JAILED FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES AGAINST CHILDREN
A police officer has been sentenced to six-and-a-half years in prison after being convicted of several sexual offences committed against minors.The crimes took place before he joined the police force.
PC Paul Hanson, aged 33 and based in Bedworth as a response officer, was responsible for abusing three teenage girls in the late 2000s and early 2010s.
At Warwick Crown Court last month (December 2024), he was convicted of six counts related to sexual activity with a minor and two counts of encouraging a minor to participate in sexual acts.
The court was told that Hanson befriended the girls in Nuneaton, which led to the offenses.
Detective Constable James Pomeroy of Warwickshire Police said: “The bravery of the victims is commendable.
No child should be subjected to such abuse.
They have shown great courage in supporting the case, and I hope seeing Hanson sentenced provides some sense of justice for them.” Detective Superintendent Paul Thompson, head of professional standards at Warwickshire Police, added: “Hanson’s crimes are reprehensible, and I welcome the prison sentence handed down to him.
“The actions of the likes of Hanson understandably reflect badly on the wider policing profession.
However, I would like to emphasise that the overwhelming majority of police officers in Warwickshire go to work each day to make a difference and protect the community.
Where we find evidence of any wrongdoing amongst officers and police staff we will investigate and look to hold them to account.”
