LEICESTER MAN JAILED FOR CHILD ABDUCTION AND ONLINE SEXUAL OFFENCES
Owen McClymont faced multiple grave charges related to child sexual offenses. His initial arrest stemmed from suspicion of kidnapping a 14-year-old girl supported by social services.
At that time, McClymont, aged 22, had arranged for her to travel from Leicester by paying her train fare, and he bought her clothes and jewelry.
He was also in a relationship with her beginning in March 2021.
Camera footage showed him purchasing rings for her in February 2022 and kissing her inside a shop.
Social workers alerted law enforcement in December 2021, leading to a Child Abduction Warning Notice that barred him from contact.
Despite this, McClymont unblocked the girl on social media and continued their relationship, paying for her travel with his bank card.
He was later arrested but released on bail, yet he persisted in their relationship until she ended it and made a report in July 2022.
In early 2023, a paedophile hunting group reported him for online interactions with a fake profile, during which he sent inappropriate images and solicited sexual acts, believing the girl was just 12.
McClymont was found guilty of attempting to communicate sexually with a minor, engaging in sexual acts with a minor, abduction, and refusing to cooperate with police by withholding his PIN.
The judge, Harbage, remarked on his knowledge of her young age and his serious misconduct, initially proposing a 12-month sentence which was suspended for two years.
His punishment includes extensive rehabilitative efforts such as probation, sex offender therapy, and alcohol treatment.
Additionally, he will be subject to a sexual harm prevention order for ten years and is permanently banned from contacting the victim.
The court underscored that he poses a danger to the public but considered that treatment might be the most suitable resolution.
