FATHER JAILED FOR DELIBERATELY DRIVING INTO CHILDREN AFTER DAUGHTER'S ATTACK
A father-of-six from Nottingham who deliberately drove his vehicle into a group of children after believing his daughter had been attacked has been sentenced to jail.Judge Steven Coupland stated: "You believed one of your daughters had been attacked and in those circumstances you were upset and angry.
What was not justified was getting into a car and chasing them and it was obviously not reasonable to deliberately drive at those children." Omar Shazad, aged 41, was found guilty of dangerous driving, having previously pleaded guilty to the offence in connection with the incident.
The court heard how he drove his car into the group in Wycliffe Street, New Basford, on July 12 of the previous year, just after hearing that his daughter was bleeding following an assault.
He then continued to chase after the fleeing group, striking two children, whose identities are protected by law due to their ages.
Victim-impact statements revealed how the girls have been affected emotionally, with one stating she "used to be a loud and happy individual who was out every day" but now is cautious and distrustful, and the other describing feeling scared and angry after the incident.
The judge emphasized that Shazad's actions were not impulsive but deliberate, and his lack of remorse was concerning.
He was sentenced to a year in custody and disqualified from driving for 17 months.
