DANGEROUS WREXHAM MAN NATHAN KENDRICK SENTENCED FOR ANIMAL CRUELTY AND ASSAULT

Nathan James Kendrick, born around 1993 and residing on Wheatsheaf Lane in Gwersyllt, Wrexham, was convicted in 2019 of animal cruelty after he threw a Yorkshire Terrier out of a first-floor window during a domestic dispute.

Kendrick, a man with a lengthy criminal record including 21 previous convictions for offences such as common assault, grievous bodily harm, and drug dealing, now faces additional charges after his reckless act involving the defenseless dog. Remarkably, the dog survived without injury.

According to reports, Kendrick had an on-and-off relationship with Lucy Lewis, which ended two weeks prior to the incident. When Ms. Lewis went to pick up her son from a nearby park, Kendrick followed her to their home, took the dog off the lead, and threatened to hang the animal at Gwersyllt railway station. Later, when she called Kendrick, he told her the dog was "dead."

Ms. Lewis then visited Kendrick’s house and witnessed him throw the dog from the bedroom window. Following this, Kendrick exited his property and assaulted Ms. Lewis, nearly pushing her into an oncoming vehicle.

In January 2019, Kendrick received an 18-week prison term for attacking Ms. Lewis, with an additional 18 weeks to run concurrently for causing unnecessary suffering to the dog.

During the sentencing hearing, Kendrick’s barrister, Matthew Curtis, argued that his client had been treated harshly, suggesting a community sentence would have been more appropriate. Curtis stated, “There were a number of pushes on his former partner, but this was of lower culpability and the starting point is a medium-level community order.”

However, the judge emphasized that the custodial sentence was justified by the fact that Ms. Lewis was targeted out of control, expressing concern that she could have been seriously hurt and noting, “It was more in luck that the dog was not maimed or killed.” The judge also described Kendrick as "controlling," citing his history of threatening behaviour and violence.

Kendrick was sentenced to 18 weeks in jail for animal cruelty, which will be served concurrently with his sentence for assaulting Ms. Lewis. This case was reported by Daily Post and Leader Live.
