HUDDERSFIELD MAN SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT ON TRAIN
A resident of Huddersfield has been given a 26-week jail sentence, suspended for 18 months, after being convicted of a sexual assault on a train traveling between Doncaster and Sheffield.Muath Dahdal, aged 24 and living on Colne Road, was found guilty at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court on September 7 of the sexual assault.
He has also been instructed to pay £300 in compensation and £200 in legal costs, and is required to register on the sex offenders register for seven years.
The incident took place on October 13, 2022, on a Northern train from Hull.
According to British Transport Police, Dahdal boarded the train at Doncaster, sat next to the victim, and during the journey to Sheffield, engaged in a sustained sexual assault without speaking.
After arriving in Sheffield, both the victim and Dahdal alighted separately.
The woman then reported the assault to a British Transport police officer on the platform.
Dahdal was identified by her and detained as he left the station.
Detective Constable Lucy Broadbent said: “This was a distressing ordeal that left the young woman shaken and traumatised.
Dahdal denied the sexual assault and made no comment during police interviews.
