LEICESTER MAN JAILED FOR LIFE FOR WIFE'S BRUTAL MURDER
A man who murdered his wife in a brutal attack with an axe and knife has been sentenced to life imprisonment.Mohammed Zaman, aged 45, admitted to killing his wife, Sameena, during his trial after the judge dismissed his claim that he "momentarily lost control".
Mrs.
Zaman, aged 34, was discovered at their home on Down Street, Leicester, with multiple stab wounds in January 2014.The judge sentenced Zaman to a minimum term of 22 years in prison.
During the trial, it was revealed that Mrs.
Zaman had moved to the UK from Pakistan in 2010 as part of an arranged marriage.
The prosecution described a history of domestic abuse in their relationship, where Zaman exerted control over his wife rather than supporting her.
It was also reported that on the day of the murder, Zaman consumed a large quantity of anti-freeze and went to his brother-in-law's house, where he confessed to the killing. The jury heard how Zaman's only legal plea was guilty, as his defense of a temporary loss of control was rejected by the court.
Hussain Asalat, a family friend of Mrs.
Zaman, expressed deep sorrow, stating, "She was an innocent young woman who has been killed for no reason.
She was a good, hardworking person who supported her husband, who was not working at all.
No words can express our sadness at losing Sameena and we have shed many tears for her."
