OXFORD MEN GUILTY OF GROOMING AND RAPE SENTENCES
Three men who groomed and sexually abused an Oxford schoolgirl have been sentenced to life in prison.Anjum Dogar, aged 37, Mohammed Karrar, aged 44, and his brother Bassam, aged 39, were convicted of 10 charges, including conspiracy to rape.
The abuse occurred between 2002 and 2005, with all three already serving life sentences for similar crimes.
During sentencing at Oxford Crown Court, Judge Peter Ross described the group’s treatment of their victim as "a sexual tool." The victim, who was 14 when she first encountered her abusers, testified that she was raped by Dogar and Mohammed Karrar in 2004, when she was 15, and she became pregnant but later had an abortion.
The court heard that the men belonged to a grooming ring convicted in 2013 of abusing six girls from Oxford over eight years, a case uncovered during police operation Bullfinch.
The jury reached a unanimous verdict last year, finding the men guilty of further offences including indecent assault and rape.
The victim described her experience as "horrific," saying, "They destroy lives.
They tear your confidence away, make you feel dirty and used and betrayed.
They come across as friends and then they destroy you, and it's disgusting." Mohammed Karrar will now serve a minimum of 18 years, Bassam at least 10 years, and Dogar at least 20 years.
The victim said she was raped in a flat in Plowman Tower, Headington, and described her ordeal as one where the perpetrators plied her with alcohol and drugs, forcing her to perform sex acts in various locations around Oxford.
She described the abuse as "horrific," emphasizing how it damaged her confidence, made her feel dirty, and betrayed.
The case highlights the brutality and deception involved in grooming, and the judges’ sentences reflect the severity of their crimes.
