MOHAMMED IQBAL'S VIOLENT RAMPAGE IN ABERDEEN LEADS TO TWO-YEAR PRISON SENTENCE
Mohammed Iqbal, a 34-year-old man from Aberdeen, has been formally sentenced in connection with a sustained and aggressive campaign of violence and abuse directed at his former romantic partner. The court heard that over a period exceeding one year, Iqbal engaged in multiple physical assaults and verbal abuse, creating a pattern of intimidation and harm that culminated in several serious incidents.Among the most alarming acts detailed during the proceedings were instances where Iqbal physically choked his partner, dragged her by her hair, and delivered slaps across her face. These acts of violence demonstrated a disturbing level of brutality and a clear pattern of controlling behavior. In addition to these assaults, Iqbal also engaged in psychological harassment, including leaving a note under her car’s windscreen and having her vehicle clamped. The note, written in red pen, contained threatening messages, further escalating the severity of his actions and causing significant distress to his victim.
During the court hearing, it was revealed that Iqbal’s conduct was heavily influenced by substance abuse issues, specifically the use of cocaine and alcohol. His legal representative described him as the “black sheep of his family,” openly acknowledging his struggles with addiction and the impact it had on his behavior. The court also took into account Iqbal’s criminal history, which included previous offenses involving violence towards women, indicating a troubling pattern of conduct.
In sentencing, the judge imposed a custodial term of two years in prison. The sentence was backdated to January 24 of the current year, reflecting the ongoing nature of his offending. The court emphasized the seriousness of domestic violence cases and highlighted the danger posed by Iqbal’s history of substance abuse combined with violent tendencies.
Furthermore, a non-harassment order was issued, prohibiting Iqbal from approaching or contacting his former partner for a period of five years. The judge underscored the importance of protecting victims from further harm and acknowledged the case as a stark example of domestic abuse. The decision to imprison Iqbal was driven by concerns over his repeated violent behavior and the potential risk he posed to others, especially given his ongoing issues with substance dependency and violent impulses.
