ABERDEEN VET GARY BAIN AND CORAL ABEL ILLEGAL DOG PROCEDURES REVEALED

An extensive investigation conducted by the Scottish SPCA’s Special Investigation Unit (SIU) has brought to light serious allegations against Coral Abel and Gary Bain, both of whom faced prosecution for performing unauthorized veterinary procedures on dogs without possessing the necessary qualifications. The case, centered in Aberdeen, uncovered disturbing practices that put animal welfare at significant risk.

During court proceedings, it was revealed that Coral Abel repeatedly attempted to extract intravenous blood samples from Zara, a golden retriever brought to K9 Fertility Aberdeen for artificial insemination. The procedure was not only unprofessional but also caused Zara considerable pain and distress. Witnesses described how blood sprayed across the clinic during the attempt, highlighting the unsanitary and unhygienic conditions of the facility. Abel struggled to locate a suitable vein, resulting in pools of blood forming on the floor and visibly causing Zara discomfort.

An SIU spokesperson provided further details, stating, “While Abel was taking the intravenous blood sample, she did not wear gloves and carried out the procedure on a dirty floor covered in dog hair and grime. Abel was not confident at obtaining the blood sample and was concerned she was hurting the dog.” The clinic’s environment was found to be highly inappropriate for medical procedures, with the use of illegal equipment such as a progesterone testing machine that is strictly reserved for trained veterinary professionals. Despite Zara’s fertility levels indicating that artificial insemination should not have been performed, the clinic proceeded with the procedure, further endangering the dog’s health.

Investigations revealed that the environment was grossly unhygienic, significantly increasing the risk of bacterial infections and other complications. Both Bain and Abel pleaded guilty to multiple counts of attempting to draw blood and performing internal artificial insemination without the necessary qualifications. Their actions caused unnecessary pain and suffering to Zara, raising serious concerns about animal welfare.

Gary Bain’s clinic, known as Aberdeen K9 Ltd, was directly linked to these illegal activities. Bain, who originally hails from England, has reportedly moved to Thailand to operate a cannabis farm, distancing himself from the controversy. Meanwhile, Coral Abel maintains her residence in Aberdeen, where she keeps 11 German Shepherds at her home, raising further animal welfare concerns.

In sentencing, Bain was fined £900 and received a five-year ban from providing any services to animals. Abel was handed a 12-month community order, which includes 100 hours of unpaid work. The court expressed disappointment at the leniency of these penalties, emphasizing the importance of protecting animal welfare and condemning the illegal practices carried out by both individuals.
