MIVAN JASIM SEX OFFENDER FROM STOCKTON SENTENCED IN TEESSIDE COURT
In October 2005, a serious criminal case unfolded involving Mivan Jasim, an Iraqi asylum seeker residing in Stockton, who was convicted of a sexual assault against a 15-year-old girl.The incident, which took place in Stockton, led to Jasim being sentenced to two years in prison after he admitted to the charges during his court appearance.
According to court records, the young girl, who was only 15 at the time, had been out with a friend in Stockton town centre in January of the previous year.
The two teenagers had been drinking alcohol, which is often a common activity among youths in the area, and subsequently decided to visit a pizza shop.
During this outing, they encountered a man who was staying at a flat on Hartingdon Road, Stockton.
This man was later identified as Mivan Jasim, who was with a friend at the time and had been out drinking in Middlesbrough, another nearby location.
Prosecutor Sarah Mallett explained that the girls initially fabricated names when speaking to the man, with the victim claiming she was 15 and her friend asserting she was 17.
Later, the friend claimed they were twins, and the victim then said she was 17.
The girls then went back to Jasim’s flat with him, where the situation took a darker turn.
Jasim was found to be smoking cannabis with another man at the time.
At the flat, the victim was given a drink, after which she began to feel unwell, experiencing dizziness and nausea.
She eventually blacked out.
When she regained consciousness, she discovered that her underwear had been tampered with.
Medical examinations confirmed that sexual intercourse had occurred, and DNA evidence matched Jasim’s profile to the crime scene.
Jasim pleaded guilty to the charge of buggery, which resulted in a rape charge being formally recorded against him.
During the court proceedings, Jasim expressed remorse through an interpreter, stating, “I am very sorry, I am guilty, I did not know about the law in this country and I did not know she was 15.” Representing the defendant, Christine Egerton, highlighted that Jasim had been living in the United Kingdom for three years and held leave to remain for an additional three years, with the possibility of indefinite leave.
As part of his sentence, Jasim was ordered to register as a sex offender for ten years, reflecting the severity of his crime and the legal system’s response to such offenses in the UK.
