MAN ASSAULTED HIS EX AND TRAPPED HER IN MUM'S CAR
A man from Kinmel Bay, who assaulted his former partner and confined her inside his mother’s vehicle in Rhyl, has received a prison sentence.Michael Rogers, aged 27 and residing in Denbigh Circle, was handed a 45-week jail term at Cardiff Crown Court on Tuesday (March 3).
He previously confessed to the charge of assault resulting in actual bodily harm.
Prosecutor Emmalyne Downing explained that Rogers and Erin Jackson were in a relationship until October 2024, but they later rekindled their relationship approximately a year afterward.
By December 2025, Ms Jackson realized this was a mistake and informed Rogers that they had ended their relationship.
On December 29, 2025, Rogers sent a message asking if he could collect his property from her parents' house, which she permitted.
Later that day, during a visit to McDonald’s on Ffordd Derwen, Ms Jackson and a friend saw Rogers’ mother’s car.
Rogers approached them, claiming he could hear their laughter.
Ms Jackson responded by saying “No,” expressing her fear and remarking she had “never seen him like that before.” Rogers instructed Ms Jackson to remove a tracksuit, which he had given her as a birthday gift, before pushing her onto a grass verge.
He then forcibly pushed her into the back seat of her mother’s car while she shouted for assistance.
Rogers proceeded to get into the front of the vehicle and leaned into the back, effectively trapping her inside, according to the prosecutor.
During the incident, Rogers also pulled out Ms Jackson’s hair extensions, while his mother, who was driving, shouted for her to be quiet.
When Ms Jackson attempted to open a car door, Rogers would close it again.
She described feeling “terrified” throughout.
Eventually, Ms Jackson was freed when Rogers’ mother ordered him to “Get her out.” Video footage of part of the assault was shown during the sentencing.
Rogers, who has prior convictions for assault and criminal damage, was defended by Matthew Dunford, who asked the court to consider his guilty plea.
Dunford stated Rogers is “genuinely sorry for how he behaved on that day”.
and suggested that his drug abuse “perhaps lies behind the way he ended up behaving”.
The sentencing judge, Recorder Simon Hughes, told Rogers, “It is clear that, throughout the incident, Ms Jackson offers no resistance and is palpably terrified.
“It is a harrowing series of footage.
“This was a serious violent assault.
It involved an effort to degrade the victim and to restrain her liberty.” A five-year domestic abuse protection order was also issued to Rogers.
