BUILDER JAILED FOR MANSLAUGHTER OF PARTNER IN KINMEL BAY
Anthony Bird, a builder and part-time barman aged 48, was convicted of the manslaughter of Tracy Kearns, the mother of his two daughters. He had strangled her after discovering she was having an affair.
Following the attack, Bird placed Miss Kearns' body into a tree house at their residence in Kinmel Bay, Conwy county, then wrapped it in plastic and transported it in a trailer.
A jury at Mold Crown Court found him not guilty of her murder but convicted him of manslaughter on the basis of loss of control.
Mr.
Justice Clive Lewis stated that Bird had not shown remorse, noting Tracy Kearns’ body was found with forty separate injuries.
Bird had initially claimed during police interviews that he did not intend to kill her during a struggle, but later changed his story, alleging self-defense after claiming she threatened him with scissors and he restrained her.
The court sentenced him to 13 years in jail.
The case was described as domestic violence at its worst, with Miss Kearns’ family devastated, especially her mother who said her life had been 'torn apart.'
