MAN JAILED FOR THREATENING TO KILL CHILD AND BURN NAN ALIVE
Ethan Higton, aged 26 and residing on Moelwyn Avenue North in Kinmel Bay, received a sentence of two years and eight months in prison following a series of harassment incidents against his half-sister Jessica Roberts.Over several months, he sent approximately 100 messages daily, many containing intimidating threats of violence, including promises to kill her and her child gradually, as well as threats to burn her grandmother alive and reduce her to ashes by smoke.
Prosecutor Richard Edwards explained that Higton and Ms.
Roberts had only been acquainted since 2020, and his behavior quickly grew unstable.
The messages referenced weapons such as Glock pistols and machetes, raising concerns especially because Higton had a prior conviction for carrying a Rambo-style hunting knife in public.
Additionally, a 10-year restraining order was imposed, forbidding him from contacting Jessica Roberts or her grandparents, or from visiting their residences.
The judge emphasized the seriousness of the threats, particularly highlighting the gravity of threatening to kill someone's child.
Discussions of Higton’s mental health included indications of psychosis and autistic traits; the defense acknowledged his remorse and noted he had a troubled upbringing, having lost his mother at a young age and being raised by his grandparents.
Despite this, the court underscored the danger he posed and his violent history.
Higton was convicted of harassment and making threats, with authorities also noting his disturbing references to weapons during the threats.
