MICHAEL PARKER FROM SUNDERLAND JAILED FOR ATTEMPTED RAPE OF 12-YEAR-OLD GIRL
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Sunderland, Michael Parker, a 24-year-old man, has been sentenced to five years in prison after attempting to commit a heinous sexual assault on a young girl aged just 12.The incident took place on February 28 of the previous year, and the details emerged during a court hearing at Newcastle Crown Court.
According to court records, Parker, who is married and a father of one, undressed himself and then proceeded to try to assault the young girl in her bedroom.
The attack was abruptly halted when someone unexpectedly entered the room and confronted Parker, preventing further harm.
The court was told that Parker claimed to have no memory of the assault, citing intoxication as the reason for his amnesia.
Despite this, he pleaded guilty to attempted rape during the proceedings.
Prosecutor Tim Gittins explained to the court that Parker admitted to attempting to rape the girl but insisted that he was too drunk to recall the events clearly.
Gittins emphasized that Parker's actions were deliberate, and the attempt was serious enough to warrant criminal charges.
The court heard that the girl was deeply affected by the incident, experiencing significant emotional distress and a noticeable change in her personality since the attack.
Defense lawyer Brian Mark argued that Parker's actions were committed while he was heavily intoxicated and that he does not have any sexual attraction towards young girls.
Mark expressed confusion over how Parker found himself in such a situation, emphasizing that his client could not understand his own behavior at the time.
Judge David Wood addressed the court, describing the sequence of events in detail.
He stated, “You did go and lie down on the bed next to her and it was later you undressed and got into bed next to her.
You undressed her and you attempted to rape her.
You were really only stopped when someone came in and stopped you.” The judge also noted the lasting impact on the victim, highlighting that she has faced numerous difficulties since the incident.
Concluding the sentencing, Judge Wood emphasized the importance of protecting vulnerable children and deterring adults from engaging in such criminal conduct.
Parker, residing on Peasmore Road in Pennywell, was sentenced to five years in prison and was ordered to sign the Sex Offenders’ Register for life, underscoring the severity of his crime and the community's need for safety and justice.
