HUDDERSFIELD MAN IN COURT OVER THREATENING WHATSAPP MESSAGES TO EX-PARTNER
A man has appeared in court after allegedly threatening over WhatsApp to stab his ex and her new partner.Michael Kwakwa, aged 46, was charged in relation to an offence under the Malicious Communications Act.
The voice message was reportedly sent to his victim, who resides in Sheepridge, on April 27.
Prosecutor Shamaila Qureshi stated that Kwakwa threatened his ex and her new partner, saying: "I'll stab you both and kill you!" He pleaded not guilty to the charge of sending a communication intended to cause stress or anxiety.
Kwakwa claims he has no intention of carrying out the threats.
Although his case could have been dealt with at Huddersfield court, he chose to be tried by a judge and jury at Leeds Crown Court.
District Judge Michael Fanning informed him that his first appearance would be at Leeds Crown Court on August 27.
In the meantime, Kwakwa, of St Johns Road in Huddersfield, has been granted conditional bail with a requirement not to contact the complainant.
