MICHAEL HUGHES JAILED FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT IN HUDDERSFIELD

In a disturbing incident that unfolded in Huddersfield, a man named Michael Hughes was sentenced to a total of three and a half years in prison following his conviction for a sexual assault involving a teenage girl. The court proceedings revealed that Hughes, who was staying at the same address as the 16-year-old girl and her boyfriend, committed the assault while she was asleep in bed.

According to the court, Hughes had pulled down the girl’s knickers without her consent and had entered her bed between her legs. Fortunately, the girl awoke during the assault and resisted Hughes’s advances. The incident took place during a night when Hughes was reportedly drinking alcohol, which may have impaired his judgment. The court heard that Hughes had no prior convictions related to sexual offenses, but he did have a criminal record that included convictions for violence and possession of offensive weapons.

When the girl’s boyfriend discovered Hughes in the room, he reacted swiftly and aggressively. He grabbed a golf club and struck Hughes with it, threatening to kill him. In response, Hughes chased the boyfriend down the street wielding a kitchen knife, creating a tense and dangerous situation. The court was told that Hughes had no previous sex offenses but had a history of violent behavior.

Hughes, who was identified as having no fixed address, was found guilty by a jury of two charges: sexual assault and affray. The judge, Christopher Batty, sentenced him to two and a half years for the sexual assault, with an additional 12 months to be served consecutively for the affray. During sentencing, Judge Batty noted that Hughes had previously indicated an attraction to the girl and commented that Hughes had allowed alcohol to influence his actions. The judge also acknowledged the girl’s fear that she was going to be raped during the incident.

He further explained that the altercation with her boyfriend was intense, with Hughes taking a golf club to his solar plexus and then chasing him with a kitchen knife. The court took into account that Hughes had previously faced a more serious charge of rape, which was ultimately withdrawn, but emphasized that the case remained serious.
