NORTHUMBERLAND MAN JAILED FOR STALKING FORMER PARTNER AFTER YEARS OF COERCIVE CONTROL
Michael Burton, 61, of Widdrington Cottages, Northumberland, was jailed for 2 years and 2 months for stalking his former partner.
He had subjected her to years of controlling and coercive behaviour, including fitting a tracker to her car to monitor her movements after she left him.
Burton falsely accused her of infidelity, made distressing claims about her sleeping with family members, and was a persistent threat.
He also damaged her belongings by taking over her home for hours and was guilty of breaching a restraining order, harassment, criminal damage, and possessing amphetamines and cannabis.
Burton has no previous convictions but was previously convicted of stalking in 2019, for which he received a 16-month jail term and an indefinite restraining order.
Despite his release, he continued to contact her, prompting this latest judgment.
He has now been jailed for the new offences, which include breaching the restraining order and harassment.
