SALFORD WOMAN AVOIDS JAIL AFTER REVENGE PORN SCANDAL INVOLVING EX-LOVER
A woman identified as Melissa Thomas, aged 24, from Salford, has been involved in a revenge porn incident for which she narrowly avoided jail. She sent a 13-second video of her former lover, a 63-year-old man, taking a shower via WhatsApp, accompanied by a message implying misconduct.
The video was also sent to the man's wife, which caused distress.
During the court proceedings, Thomas admitted to disclosing private sexual photographs and films to the wife with the intent to cause distress, but denied sending the clip to her former lover himself.
She was sentenced to a 12-week suspended prison term, ordered to pay £100 in compensation to the victim's wife, a victim surcharge of £115, and court costs of £85.
The district judge highlighted her role as the primary carer of her young son as a factor in sparing her imprisonment.
The incident was linked to a legal battle over the paternity of the couple's love child and issues related to access.
The court acknowledged her early guilty plea and remorse, stating that if the video had circulated further, the consequences could have been more severe.
The man, the victim, expressed his disgust at her actions, stating, "I'm disgusted that a person could act in this way.
I have done everything I can to see my son, I pay child support I have taken him on holiday and this is what I get in return.
I no longer wish to be in contact with Melissa and will sort out contact through the courts." This case reflects the serious nature of revenge porn violations, despite her lenient sentence.
