MACCLESFIELD MAN WHO PLEADED GUILTY TO HARASSING EX-GIRLFRIEND SPARED JAIL
A Macclesfield man named Matthew Daniel Mycroft, aged 31, pleaded guilty to harassing his ex-girlfriend, Lynn Owen, by hacking into her email account and sending her abusive messages.
His harassment lasted over a month and included a series of threatening messages, such as one wishing that she would 'die in her sleep' and another stating 'I'm so close to coming up there and smashing all the f..ing windows.' During a row at her flat, he also committed criminal damage by smashing a TV, vase, and mirror, and breaking a mirror in the hallway.
Ms Owen provided a police statement, revealing that she received about 60 abusive messages daily after he accessed her email.
Magistrates recognized the seriousness of his actions and ordered him to undertake a community order with 150 hours of unpaid work, pay £250 for damages, and adhere to a two-year restraining order not to contact Ms Owen.
The court noted that he had come close to being jailed, emphasizing that 'You could well have gone to prison for this offence.
It was quite serious.'
