RAPIST WHO FLED KIRKLEES AFTER 'DREADFUL' CRIMES JAILED FOR 18 YEARS
A 41-year-old West Yorkshire man, Martin Sales, was sentenced to 18 years in prison for a series of crimes, including two counts of rape.
He was also given an indefinite restraining order against the victim.
After committing the offenses in April, Sales fled to Wales to avoid arrest.
A large-scale police operation was launched to find him, and he was eventually located and arrested on May 24 in Hereford by an off-duty police officer.
A detective on the case, Eleanor Radley, said she hoped the conviction would bring some comfort to the victim, who she commended for her bravery.
Another detective, Chris Middleton, noted that the case should serve as a warning to other offenders that fleeing their home county won't prevent them from being brought to justice.
