A CHILD MOLESTER, WHO ESCAPED A PRISON SENTENCE AFTER ABUSING A SIX-YEAR-OLD BOY, WAS JAILED FOR FOUR YEARS FOR THE CRIME.
A CHILD molester, who escaped a prison sentence after abusing a six-year-old boy, was jailed for four years for the crime.
Appeal judges ruled a decision to put Mark Muir on probation for the sex offence was too lenient and upheld a Crown appeal against the sentence.
The Court of Criminal Appeal in Edinburgh decided the original sentence imposed by a sheriff failed to recognise the need for punishment and deterrence.
Muir, 40, formerly of Cheviot Court, Airdrie, in Lanarkshire, was convicted of indecent practices towards his victim over a six-year period beginning in 1993.
The child abuser was assessed as posing a high risk of sexual offending, the appeal court heard.
