TRAIN DRIVER CAUGHT IN PAEDO STING AFTER SENDING SEXUAL MESSAGES TO '12-YEAR-OLD GIRL'
A train driver who was caught sending depraved sexual messages to a '12-year-old girl' in an online sting is facing jail.Stuart Clelland, 57, was snared by vigilantes after he began talking to a decoy account on messaging app Tagged.He was unaware the 'girl' was a woman pretending to be a youngster as part of a group to weed out predators.Clelland made vile innuendos through hours of chats but was confronted by a group at his house before being arrested.He quit his role with Scotrail after footage of the sting went viral on the internet.Clelland, of Airdrie, Lanarkshire, denied any wrongdoing and went on trial at Hamilton Sheriff Court.
But a jury convicted him of making sexual communications with the girl between April and September last year.
He was sentenced by Sheriff Colin Dunipace, who deferred the sentence until next month for reports and continued bail, warning Clelland of the seriousness of the matter.
Clelland was placed on the sex offenders' register.
