AIRDRIE MAN HANDED 10-YEAR NON-HARASSMENT ORDER AFTER CHOKING EX-PARTNER
A brute who choked his partner to the extent that she passed out has been handed a 10-year non-harassment order.Kyle Potter had earlier climbed a drainpipe during an attempt to force entry to the terrified woman's Airdrie home.
The 25-year-old appeared from custody at Airdrie Sheriff Court and admitted abusive conduct towards the woman.
Kevin Morrow, prosecuting, said she and children were in the house when Potter arrived around 8.30am on October 23 last year.
She refused to let him in and Potter tried to force open the door, using a broom handle and kicking it, reports Lanarkshire Live.
He then climbed a drainpipe to a window ledge.
Next he threw cans and the broom handle at a window, demanding to know who was in the house.
The court heard Potter was in the woman's house the next day when an argument started and he grabbed her.
He compressed her neck, causing her to lose consciousness.
He returned the following day and found the woman asleep on a couch.
Potter woke her up, brandished a metal pole and threatened to hit her as he accused her of cheating on him.
A friend of the woman arrived to find her in a "distressed" state.
The court heard the domestic abuse victim was "very much in favour of" a non-harassment order being imposed.
Sheriff Derek Livingston told Potter the 10-year order prevents him from any contact with the woman and from entering her street.
The sheriff deferred sentence until next month for background reports and remanded him in custody.
Potter will also be assessed for a domestic abuse offenders' programme.
