SENTENCING DELAY FOR IRVINE MAN AFTER VIOLENT ATTACK ON EX-PARTNER
An Irvine man who attacked his former partner is currently awaiting sentencing.Mark McClung, of Barra Crescent, admitted to carrying out an assault on a woman and another man at an address in Birkshill on February 14.
The Kilmarnock Sheriff Court heard that the woman was hosting a get-together at her house with another female and two males.
She had previously been in a relationship with McClung for one year, which ended in 2013.
Around 9.30pm, there was a knock at the door.
The woman went to answer and found McClung there, who was immediately asked to leave but refused and pleaded to be allowed entry.
When she came to the door, McClung went to the kitchen where two other men were present, one of whom was "romantically involved" with his ex-partner.
McClung then punched the man involved on his head.
Other guests tried to intervene and pushed McClung back, and his ex also attempted to calm the situation.
However, McClung struck the woman on her left eye before being forced out of the house.
He was detained by police and remanded in custody.
McClung, aged 22, pleaded guilty at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court last week.
His defence solicitor revealed that McClung is an apprentice butcher and has a job waiting for him despite his detention.
He has been held since February 16, and the court deferred sentencing to later this month to prepare social work reports.
