IRVINE RAPIST CAUGHT TRYING TO BOARD FLIGHT OUT OF THE UK
Akshay Kumar assaulted a woman at his residence in Irvine, claiming he had previously drugged her drink.
The 29-year-old, who remained in the UK despite his visa having expired, was apprehended just before he was set to board a one-way flight out of the country.
He pleaded guilty to a charge of rape in the High Court in Glasgow and now faces a substantial prison sentence.
Kumar, who works as a delivery driver, attacked the woman after they had communicated and arranged to meet.
He forcibly raped her while she was under the influence of alcohol and then drove her home.
He was stopped at Manchester Airport with a one-way ticket, initially booked from Mumbai, India.
The judge cautioned him about a "significant" prison term and ordered him to be added to the sex offenders register.
