MAN HAD MORE THAN A MILLION IMAGES AND A 'PAEDOPHILE MANUAL'
A pervert with a sexual interest in young girls had amassed a "horrendous" collection of more than a million sick images and downloaded a "paedophile manual".Mark Givens had stockpiled the huge library of terrible material after becoming addicted to it.
Police went to his home in March 2023 after receiving information about potential criminal behaviour linked to his IP address.
When officers turned up, he said he knew why they were there and confessed there would be illegal material on his devices.
When interviewed by police, he admitted he was attracted to "young females" and that he had downloaded indecent images of children.
He said he had only viewed around 5% of pictures and videos he had downloaded.
There were 10,838 of the most serious, category A pictures and videos, 10,963 in category B and 1,040,072 in category C.
The court heard the children depicted were aged between under one to 17.
He had also used relevant search terms showing he had actively sought out the material.
Givens had also downloaded a "paedophile manual", which was a four minute video giving detailed instructions on ways to abuse young girls and how to avoid detection by mothers.
Givens, 41.
of Aldershot Road, Sunderland, pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images of children, possessing a paedophile manual, possessing prohibited images and possessing extreme pornography.
The offences spanned a ten-year period between 2013 and 2023.
Givens has been the subject of "adverse attention" by members of his community, has had to move and on one occasion was subject to an arson attack.
He was sentenced to 18 months suspended for two years with 120 hours unpaid work with programme requirements.
He will also be subject to a sexual harm prevention order and sex offender registration for ten years.
