A man has been fined and given a restraining order after admitting to stalking a woman in a County Durham town.
Mark Anthony Martin, 37, of Coltmans Yard, Redworth Road, Shildon, changed his plea to guilty at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court on October 31.
The court heard that between September 1 and October 29, 2024, Martin pursued a course of conduct against a named woman, including making phone calls, sending messages, and turning up at her home, which the court found amounted to harassment under the Protection from Harassment Act 1997.
Martin was fined £415, ordered to pay £300 in prosecution costs, and a £166 victim services surcharge.
He must pay in monthly installments of £90 starting November 28.
A restraining order was also imposed, preventing him from contacting the woman except through a solicitor or a third party and from entering the street where she lives.
