SHOCKING CRIME IN RYDE: LUKE TARGETT'S HORRIFIC POSSESSION OF ANIMAL AND CHILD ABUSE IMAGES REVEALED
In a disturbing case emerging from Ryde, a 58-year-old man named Luke Targett is set to appear before the Crown Court later this month after admitting to possessing a significant collection of illegal and deeply disturbing material.The charges against Targett include the possession of 126 videos and 11 images depicting bestiality, alongside a 25-minute video showing a child being sexually abused.
Targett, who resides at St Peter’s Mews on George Street in Ryde, appeared before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court to face these serious allegations.
The charges include the possession of extreme pornography, specifically material showing sexual acts involving animals, both dead and alive, as well as a Category A indecent video involving a child.
Prosecutor Ann Smout provided details of the investigation, revealing that the police’s child abuse team initiated an inquiry into Targett’s activities in March 2020.
Following this, authorities visited his residence and seized his computer equipment for forensic analysis.
The examination uncovered a troubling cache of illegal content, including 126 videos and 11 images of bestiality, along with a single video depicting child sexual abuse.
The downloaded material was dated between March 17, 2019, and August 18, 2020, indicating a prolonged period of possession.
During police interviews, Targett admitted that he had downloaded the images out of curiosity and for the thrill of engaging in illegal activity.
However, he claimed to have no sexual interest in children, though he did not elaborate further on his motives for acquiring the extreme pornography, citing embarrassment.
In an effort to avoid media attention, Targett requested that his court proceedings be held in private, behind closed doors.
Nonetheless, magistrates determined that the severity of the case warranted a more serious judicial review and decided to adjourn the matter for sentencing at the Crown Court scheduled for May 20.
As part of his legal obligations, Targett has been ordered to register as a sex offender within three days.
The duration of this registration requirement has yet to be specified.
The case highlights the ongoing concerns surrounding the possession and distribution of illegal sexual content, especially involving minors and animals, and underscores the importance of rigorous law enforcement efforts in tackling such heinous crimes.
