MAN JAILED FOR THREE YEARS AND FOUR MONTHS AFTER ADMITTING OFFENCES INCLUDING CONTROLLING OR COERCIVE BEHAVIOUR AND INTENTIONAL STRANGULATION
A 30-year-old man from Ryde has received a prison sentence of three years and four months after confessing to charges including controlling or coercive conduct and intentional strangulation directed at a 55-year-old woman in the town.Bogdan Mistreanu, a resident of Monkton Street, pleaded guilty to engaging in controlling or coercive behavior within an intimate relationship, four counts of intentional strangulation, and assault causing actual bodily harm to the woman, along with assault by beating of a 28-year-old man.
He appeared before Isle of Wight Crown Court on Monday, 26 January, and was sentenced there on Friday, 24 April.
During the hearing, it was revealed that between December 1, 2024, and December 21, 2025, the woman endured frequent aggressive interrogations, assaults, and various forms of physical, psychological, and verbal abuse.
She provided a statement describing her life as being in a “constant state of fear,” and explained that she was afraid to leave her home.
She also noted that Mistreanu had never accepted responsibility for his actions, which are expected to have long-lasting effects on her.
Her ordeal ended on December 21 last year when she fled to a nearby pub to seek help after being seriously assaulted.
Mistreanu was detained shortly afterward.
