MAN SENTENCED FOR SEX OFFENDER BREACH

Update 17/06/2026: Lewis Garraway, aged 28, violated a sexual harm prevention order (SHPO) by engaging with children, including spending time with them unsupervised, without informing authorities.

This order was issued in 2018 following his involvement in a sexual offence against a young girl and a subsequent two-week detention in a youth detention facility.

He later violated the order's notification requirements, resulting in an 18-month imprisonment in October 2021.

In 2024, Garraway connected with a woman in her early twenties through a dating app.

In October, he met her in person for the first time and stayed at her family’s residence in Littleport, where two children also resided.

Despite the conditions of his SHPO, he failed to inform police about this meeting.

During his stay, he took one of the children to a park to play rugby without supervision, once again breaching the order.

He also told his partner that he was between homes, lost his key, and had no place to stay.

A family member became suspicious after learning of his past offences and confronted him, leading to police involvement.

On June 12, at Cambridge Crown Court, Garraway residing in Long Sutton, Lincolnshire was sentenced to a year and a half in prison after admitting to breaching his SHPO and failing to register as a sex offender on two counts.

……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………… In October 2021, Lewis Garraway, a 23-year-old man from Northampton, was sentenced to a prison term of two years and two months after he was found to have violated the strict conditions imposed on him as a registered sex offender.

Garraway, who previously resided on Pilton Close in Northampton, was subject to a series of legal requirements designed to monitor and restrict his movements due to his status as a registered sex offender.

Among these conditions was the obligation to notify police authorities if he was in close proximity to any children, a rule he was supposed to strictly adhere to.

Despite these legal obligations, Garraway blatantly disregarded the rules.

In January 2021, he rented a room within his own house to a man who frequently brought his children, aged four and eight, to visit.

Unbeknownst to the visiting father, Garraway was a registered sex offender with specific conditions to follow, including restrictions on contact with minors.

The breach was uncovered during routine checks conducted by the Metropolitan and Other Sex Offenders' Register (MOSOVO) Team, a specialised police unit responsible for monitoring offenders.

The team’s officers discovered the unauthorised arrangement and immediately took action, charging Garraway with failing to comply with his notification obligations.

Following his arrest, Garraway failed to attend several scheduled police bail appointments, further complicating his legal situation.

He also did not appear at his initial court hearing, which led to additional concerns about his compliance and cooperation with law enforcement authorities.

Ultimately, the court sentenced Garraway to a prison term of two years and two months, reflecting the seriousness of his violations and the potential risk posed by his actions.

His case underscores the importance of strict monitoring and enforcement of conditions placed on registered sex offenders to protect the community, especially vulnerable children.
