WOMAN SENTENCED FOR SENDING DEATH THREATS TO THE PRODUCER AND PRESENTER OF COUNTDOWN

A woman has received a prison sentence after sending threatening and offensive messages to a television show’s producer and presenter.

Laura Greenwood, aged 42 and residing on Bedford Street South in Toxteth, Liverpool, previously appeared on the program Countdown in March 2013, under the alias Rachel Moran.

Following her appearance, Greenwood mailed several letters to the show’s former producer, Damian Eadie, in which she falsely claimed that he had negatively impacted her life and expressed that she was experiencing mental health issues.

It wasn’t until December 2023—approximately a decade later—that she made contact again, this time through a “Contact Us” form on Channel 4’s website.

Her messages were signed with her name and contained insults directed at Mr Eadie, along with threats of physical violence.

Her communications grew increasingly hostile, targeting both Mr Eadie and Rachel Riley, the show's then-presenter.

She made multiple threats to kill them and accused both of ruining her life, blaming her appearance on the show for a serious decline in her mental health.

These messages were reported to law enforcement in July 2024.

Due to unrelated legal issues Greenwood was facing, police interviews did not occur until December 2024.

She faced charges for sending three electronic messages that threatened harm, violating the Malicious Communications Act 1988, and three additional charges for transmitting messages that contained death threats under the Online Safety Act 2023.

Greenwood admitted guilt to all six charges during her initial court appearance at Liverpool Magistrates Court on June 19, 2025.

On July 17, 2025, she was sentenced to six months in prison at Liverpool Crown Court.

This punishment was to run consecutively to her existing prison sentence of two years and eight months, which stemmed from an unrelated arson offence.

Furthermore, the Crown Prosecution Service sought a lifelong restraining order to bar Greenwood from ever contacting Mr Eadie or Ms Riley, which the court granted.

Senior CPS prosecutor Matthew Dixon emphasized the seriousness of such threats, stating that these offensive communications are criminal and should never be trivialized.

He highlighted that threats to life have real-world consequences and thanked the victims for their cooperation in prosecuting Greenwood.
