WOMAN WITH A RECORD OF DOMESTIC THREATS SENTENCED FOR THREATENING WITH KNIVES ON BIRTHDAY
A judge addressed Haja Kamara, a 47-year-old woman from Mulgrave Street in Toxteth, after she appeared in court for threatening her ex-boyfriend with two knives during an incident involving her former partner. The court was told that Kamara had chased her ex-boyfriend, Colin Silbourne, with the knives after a domestic dispute, which included her throwing cannabis plants into the bin and calling the police about Mr.
Silbourne's behavior outside her residence.
Court footage showed her brandishing the knives while Mr.
Silbourne was leaving the address, leading to her being arrested only after police reviewed the footage.
Kamara had called 999 complaining about her partner, and police found the scene with scattered bins and remnants of a small cannabis grow.
The judge described her birthday as 'a memorable one' upon sentencing her to four months in prison for threatening with an offensive weapon in a private place, following her admission of the charge.
Kamara has three previous convictions and has been remanded since March 10, but her legal representative indicated she wanted to change her life and reconnect with her family following her detention.
The court highlighted her developing criminal record, which includes offenses such as assaulting a police officer, criminal damage, possession of a Class B drug, and racially aggravated public order offenses.
Despite the severity of her record, her defense argued that a short custodial sentence would suffice, especially since she had been in custody since March, and she would be released soon due to time served.
Kamara expressed her gratitude to the court before being led to custody, with the court noting the unusual context since her main victim, Mr.
Silbourne, had not formally pressed charges.
The judge closed the case by emphasizing her 'unpleasant record' and former victim status, ultimately sentencing her to four months imprisonment, which she would serve in the coming days.
