MAN WHO FILMED HALF-NAKED YOUNG GIRL ON PHONE SPARED JAIL

A man accused of filming a partially dressed young girl with his mobile phone was found possessing a large collection of child abuse images following a police raid on his residence.

Callum Moon, 22, claimed he was “not sexually attracted to children in real life” despite the fact he had downloaded more than 500 indecent images, including of young children being raped.

Moon, of Van Dyke Street, Toxteth, pleaded guilty to being in possession of 582 indecent images of children, 116 of which were classed as Category A, depicting the most serious forms of abuse.

During the police search, officers also uncovered videos that Moon had recorded himself, focusing on a young girl’s pubic area.

The seized mobile devices contained extreme pornography and seven videos categorised as Category A.

Prosecutor Paul Blasbery told Liverpool Crown Court that police obtained a warrant and searched Moon’s home, confiscating five devices.

Analysis revealed two mobile phones contained a collection of child abuse images, some featuring girls as young as eight years old.

Mr Blasbery explained that one of Moon’s Category C videos lasted 42 seconds and was centred on a young girl’s pubic area.

Screenshots taken from the video also showed images of her genitals.

The court was told Moon fully admitted to possessing the indecent images and videos.

Defending, Brendan Carville stated that Moon acknowledged a sexual attraction to these images but claimed that this interest had ceased before the police executed their search.

Mr Carville further explained that Moon insisted he had no real-life sexual interest in children and was not attracted to minors.

He described the case as “sad” and highlighted that Moon had no prior criminal record, cooperating fully with authorities.

Appearing in court wearing a black jacket, Moon was characterised as a “loner” who had led a “sheltered life.” It was revealed that he was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder but was not receiving treatment for it.

After discussions with mental health and probation officers, Judge David Aubrey KC remarked that Moon was “suitable for mental health treatment” and expressed his willingness to work towards therapeutic goals, noting Moon’s self-critical attitude and desire to address his feelings.

The judge acknowledged that Moon “has mental health issues” but described the case as “extremely difficult and troubling.” Referencing the defence, he noted Moon’s isolation but appreciated that he recognised his need for help.

It was also disclosed that following his arrest, Moon attempted to take his own life due to fear of imprisonment.

Ultimately, Moon received a two-year suspended sentence and was ordered to attend 12 mental health sessions lasting one hour each.

Additionally, he was subject to a 10-year sexual harm prevention order.
