OFFENDER JAILED FOR REPEATED DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND STRANGULATION OF PARTNER
A man who strangled his estranged partner while she was feeding their baby has been sentenced to prison.Kieron Barnard, aged 22, who resides with no fixed address, was convicted following an incident at Lincoln Crown Court.
Prosecutors revealed that Barnard had subjected his former partner to a total of eight incidents of domestic violence over a nine-month period in 2024.
The court was told that the violence started in March 2024 when the victim was pregnant.
On various occasions, Barnard threw objects such as a plastic chair, games console, and remote control at the woman, and also aimed strikes to her head with a kick and punch.
In November 2024, just a month after the birth of their son, he inflicted a headbutt that left her in pain for weeks.
The attack escalated over Christmas, with Barnard grabbing her around the neck and beginning to strangle her while she was feeding their son on Boxing Day.
The court heard that the victim's life flashed before her eyes during the choking incident, and she described her shock in her impact statement.
The court noted Barnard's concerning background, which includes previous convictions for domestic incidents involving another partner.
He pleaded guilty to controlling and coercive behavior, strangulation, and threatening to cause damage.
Recorder Adrian Jack sentenced Barnard to three years and three months in jail, highlighting the pattern of criminal behavior that has marred his relationships and the serious nature of his actions.
