HUNGRY PUPPIES FOUND LIVING IN RUBBISH-STREWN ALLEY AT SIDE OF LINCOLN HOME
A woman has been banned from keeping animals for ten years after neglecting two puppies and a dog at her home in Lincoln. An RSPCA officer called at Samantha Stancer’s home and found Lurcher puppies Rio and Dexter underweight and suffering with worms.
A woman has been handed a ten-year animal ban after neglecting the dogs.
Inspector Katie Burris went to the property on Thursday, February 20, after a welfare report.
Stancer, of Welton Gardens, Lincoln, was not present but allowed access on return the next day.
The dogs were kept in a small rubbish-strewn passageway.
The inspector said: “Dexter looked to be in very poor body condition, and his backbone, ribs, and hips could clearly be seen.” The other puppy, Rio, was also in poor health, with visible hips, spine, and bones.
Stancer claimed she had owned the puppies since January 18 and was concerned about their condition but had not contacted a vet.
She signed both puppies over to the RSPCA.
A vet examination showed both were suffering from chronic hunger and a high parasite burden.
Rio weighed 6.3kg and Dexter 6.4kg.
The puppies made a quick recovery and were rehomed.
Stancer pleaded guilty to two offences under the Animal Welfare Act and appeared at Boston Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, November 4.
The court also heard she was fined £100, given an 18-month community sentence with 25 Rehabilitation Activity Requirement days, and ordered to pay costs of £200 and a £114 surcharge.
In mitigation, she said she thought the dogs were “just skinny”.
Inspector Burris added: “The conditions at this property were appalling for Dexter, Rio and Dolly.
The defendant failed to worm the puppies or seek help for their infections, leading to their ill health.
If anyone struggles to pay for veterinary treatment, the RSPCA provides support via their helpline.”
