KEVIN MCCALLUM'S REIGN OF TERROR IN FORFAR: DOMESTIC ABUSE AND REPEATED OFFENCES
Kevin McCallum, a man from Forfar with a long history of domestic violence, has once again found himself in court facing serious allegations related to his latest romantic partner. Known for his violent and obsessive behavior, McCallum has previously been branded as a significant threat to any woman he becomes involved with, a reputation that has followed him through multiple incidents spanning over eight years. In the most recent case, McCallum, aged 31 and residing on Strathmore Avenue in Forfar, appeared before Sheriff Jillian Martin-Brown at Forfar Sheriff Court. He was ordered to serve nearly three years in prison after a series of verbal and physical assaults on former partners. One particularly brutal incident involved him battering his girlfriend’s head against a wall, leaving visible dents in the surface, a clear indication of the violence he is capable of.
Following his release from prison, McCallum was placed under a supervised release order, a measure intended to monitor his behavior and prevent further offences. However, he has recently returned to court, this time on charges related to a barrage of nearly 200 text messages sent to his ex-partner. The court heard that between March 17 and April 1 of this year, McCallum engaged in conduct that was likely to cause fear and alarm to his former girlfriend. Additionally, he was accused of wilfully or recklessly damaging her car on April 8 and breaching bail conditions by making contact with her.
During the hearing, defence solicitor Nick Markowski explained that McCallum and his former partner had been in a relationship that ended, after which McCallum bombarded her with numerous text messages. He clarified that these messages were not threatening but were nuisance texts, essentially begging her to reconcile. Markowski also noted that the damage to the woman’s car occurred while McCallum was under the influence of alcohol. Despite a previous 35-month sentence for a series of domestic offences, McCallum had maintained good behavior during a year of supervised release, only for things to deteriorate after the relationship ended.
McCallum is currently awaiting a psychiatric assessment and is aware of the gravity of his situation. Sheriff Martin-Brown decided to defer sentencing for three months, with the possibility of imposing a community payback order upon his return to court. As part of the current restrictions, McCallum is required to inform supervising officers of any new relationships and is prohibited from accessing social networking sites without prior approval. He must also refrain from deleting any search history or data from his electronic devices and allow officers to inspect them at any time.
Furthermore, a hearing scheduled for July will consider the imposition of a non-harassment order to protect his victim. Historically, McCallum’s violent tendencies have been well-documented. In December 2015, Sheriff Pino Di Emidio described him as “someone that is a potential source of danger to any woman with whom you become involved.” Previous partners have described him as “obsessive and controlling,” recounting incidents where he smashed a woman’s head against an electricity box and bit her eye socket. His abusive behavior extended to calling women names and provoking arguments over trivial matters such as meal preparations or bathing routines, illustrating a pattern of controlling and violent conduct that has haunted his relationships in Forfar.
