WILLIAM RENNIE INVOLVED IN ANGUS ONLINE STING AND COURT CASE IN FORFAR
In August 2021, William Rennie was released on bail and is scheduled to return to court on September 22.In June 2021, Rennie, an offender from Angus, was caught in an online operation conducted by Wolf Pack Hunters UK, leading to a significant police response in Forfar.
The operation resulted in the arrest of multiple members of the paedophile hunting group.
Rennie has been placed on the sex offenders' register after admitting to sending disturbing messages and images to what he believed were four schoolgirls aged between 12 and 15.
In reality, these were undercover members of Wolf Pack Hunters UK, a vigilante group focused on hunting online predators.
Following several weeks of online communication, angry local residents gathered at Rennie’s residence on Old Halkerton Road in Forfar in August 2018.
The group, led by Gordon Buchan and his teenage son Jay, arrived at the flat wearing hoods and masks and shouted obscenities toward Rennie and others inside.
This confrontation was streamed live on social media by the group.
Rennie, aged 29, appeared at Perth Sheriff Court this week, where he pleaded guilty to four charges of attempting to send written sexual messages and images to five individuals claiming to be girls aged 14, 12, 13, and 15.
The charges stated he sought 'the purposes of obtaining sexual gratification, or of humiliating, distressing or alarming them.' He sent inappropriate messages and images from his home and from the Queen’s Hotel in Forfar between July 1 and August 11, 2018.
Sheriff Alastair Brown deferred sentencing for additional background reports and questioned the tactics of the Wolf Pack group, indicating that Rennie might not pose a threat to the community.
