KEVIN KINNELL SENTENCED FOR RAPE IN COWDENBEATH AND DUNFERMLINE
A man named Kevin Kinnell has been sentenced to four and a half years in prison after committing a disturbing sexual assault in Cowdenbeath, Fife.The incident took place in May 2019 at a flat located within the town, where Kinnell targeted a woman while she was asleep.
The assault was recorded by Kinnell himself, who filmed the act without the victim's knowledge or consent.
His heinous actions were only interrupted when an alarm from a mobile phone he had with him went off, alerting him to the potential risk of being caught.
The footage of the assault was later discovered by a relative of the woman, which led to Kinnell’s arrest.
The distressing video was subsequently shared with her family, causing significant humiliation and emotional trauma for the victim.
Kevin Kinnell, aged 33 and originally from Lochgelly, Fife, appeared before the High Court in Glasgow on a Monday, where he pleaded guilty to a charge of rape.
During the hearing, Lord Mulholland addressed Kinnell directly, condemning his conduct as both disgraceful and deeply disturbing.
The judge stated, “You raped her while she was asleep.
I have seen the footage – your conduct was disgraceful and disturbing.” Lord Mulholland also acknowledged the impact of the footage falling into the hands of the victim’s family, describing it as humiliating for her, although he clarified that he did not hold Kinnell responsible for the distribution of the video.
The court was informed that the original sentence would have been six years, but due to Kinnell’s guilty plea, the term was reduced to four and a half years.
During the court proceedings last month, the court played the video of the attack, which showed the woman lying on a bed, nearly naked, in a deep sleep and unable to defend herself.
Prosecutor Stephen McCloy described her state, noting that she was “visibly in a deep sleep and does not move.” In addition to the rape, Kinnell was also recorded engaging in other indecent acts, further highlighting the severity of his crimes.
His actions have left a lasting impact on the victim and have been widely condemned by the community and legal authorities alike.
