KENNEDY GRAY FROM FIFE AND LUNDIN LINKS SMIRKS AFTER ESCAPING JAIL IN SEXUAL ABUSE CASE

A man from Fife, Kennedy Gray, who was convicted of sexually abusing two young girls, displayed a disturbing lack of remorse by smirking at the victims’ families after narrowly avoiding a prison sentence. Gray, aged 55 and residing at Letham Feus in Lundin Links, was found guilty of targeting the young victims, who were just eight and 13 years old when the abuse began. The assaults took place over a period stretching from March 2011 to January 2017, with Gray repeatedly subjecting his victims to sexual misconduct at various addresses within the Levenmouth area of Fife.

The case against Gray came to light after the two girls confided in each other about the abuse while playing a game related to social workers in 2014. This revelation prompted their disclosure to authorities, but the youngest victim later retracted her statement, citing a lack of belief from some relatives. Despite this setback, the abuse continued, and Gray was reported to the police again in 2017. He maintained his innocence throughout the proceedings, denying all charges, but a jury at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court found him guilty.

One of the victims’ mothers, who requested anonymity for legal reasons, expressed her anguish and frustration. She stated, “We will never forget what this has done to our families but more importantly to those kids. They’ve been forced to keep quiet for all these years due to fear and disrespect shown by their own family members who did not believe them. This monster has taken a piece of both those girls that they will never get back. He destroyed their childhoods and this will leave them with emotional scars that will never fully heal.”

She also praised the resilience of the young victims, saying, “I am so proud of the girls. They stood strong together and based on their evidence, were able to get a majority verdict of guilty within minutes from the jury.”

However, the mother condemned Gray’s conduct in court, describing his attitude as adding to the families’ suffering. “He had the cheek to look us parents in the eye after being given his sentence today and smirked,” she said. “He has shown no remorse at all. He laughed and sneered from trial to sentencing. For anyone who is accused of a crime like this to behave like that just goes to show what a monster he really is.”

In sentencing, Sheriff Alastair Thornton ordered Gray to register as a sex offender for five years, placed him under two years of supervision, and prohibited him from having any unauthorized or unsupervised contact with individuals under 16. Gray is also required to disclose any new relationships or friendships to his supervising officer. Additionally, he was sentenced to perform 250 hours of unpaid community service within nine months and was subjected to a six-month restriction of liberty order. Sheriff Thornton issued a stern warning, stating, “If you breach any of these conditions, you will leave me with little option but to send you to prison.”
