Two individuals described as 'despicable' have received prison sentences after offering assistance to a terminally ill woman in Lancashire, only to steal her phone and purse while she was confined to her upstairs bed.
Steven Morris and Kelly Cassidy were seen walking along Walter Street in Brierfield when the elderly woman's husband hurried onto the street seeking aid at approximately 3am on October 16 of the previous year.
The duo then followed him into the residence and falsely claimed they would call emergency services, while the husband went upstairs to stay with his wife, who passed away later that day.
According to police, Cassidy and Morris pretended to make an emergency call but instead stole a purse and mobile phone from inside the home.
Morris, aged 45 and from Southfield Street, Nelson, was sentenced to a term of four years and three months in custody.
Cassidy, aged 42 and also from Southfield Street, Nelson, received a sentence of two and a half years.
